Message to the consecrated women and men of Hungary on pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Mukachevo, Ukraine, to invoke peace throughout the world.
Dear consecrated women and men,
We accompany with our hearts the steps of your pilgrimage, joining all women and men of good will who, in the Eucharistic chain promoted by the Council of the Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE), pray for peace in Ukraine and throughout the whole world.
You walk towards the Cathedral of Saint Martin in Mukachevo as pilgrims of hope on the path of peace. Your prayer and closeness to a wounded people is a sign of a discreet and luminous prophecy which, amid the clamour of war, becomes presence, sharing and consolation.
Alongside the people of Ukraine, so harshly tried, you spiritually embrace all peoples wounded by war: in Europe, in the Holy Land and in the Middle East, in Africa, in Asia and wherever conflict sows death, fear and instability, forcing many to abandon their homes and to live as refugees. Your journey thus becomes a concrete sign of closeness to every woman and every man who lives under the burden of violence, in expectation of peace.
The motto you have chosen, “Peace awaits its prophets”, deeply challenges every consecrated woman and man, called to live prophecy through their own life, through daily fidelity to the Gospel, a prayer that opens spaces to God, concrete gestures of fraternity and reconciliation, and a sincere willingness to be transformed by His love.
With affection we entrust you to the Lord, under the maternal gaze of Mary, that He may safeguard your journey and make it fruitful.
