New appointments by the Holy Father

On the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord, the Holy Father Francis appointed Sister Simona Brambilla, MC, Prefect of our Dicastery and His Eminence Card. Ángel Fernández Artime, SDB, Pro-Prefect.
Sister Simona Brambilla, M.C. former Secretary of our Dicastery, this year has followed the journey of consecrated life with loving care and tireless dedication, embracing its requests and desires, always working in a synodal style.
Card. Ángel Fernández Artime, SDB, former Rector Major of the Salesian Society of Saint John Bosco, in these days, begins his service at the Dicastery.
A native of Gozón-Luanco (Asturie), Spain, he holds a licentiate in Pastoral Theology, Philosophy and Pedagogy. He served as Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, Director of the school in Ourense, Provincial Councilor and Vicar, and from 2000 to 2006, as Provincial. After being part of the technical commission that prepared the 26th General Chapter, in 2009 he was appointed Superior of the Argentina South Province, based in Buenos Aires. On December 23, 2013, he was appointed Superior of the new Province of Mediterranean Spain, dedicated to “Mary Help of Christians.” However, before assuming this new role, on March 25, 2014, he was elected by the 27th General Chapter as the new Rector Major of the Salesian Congregation and the 10th Successor of Don Bosco.
On September 30, 2023 he was created a Cardinal by Pope Francis.
