Consecrated persons from 16 countries in Ghana: leadership, responsibility and hope

A consecrated life capable of bringing about transformation depends on responsible leadership and the creation of safe environments.

From 12 to 15 March 2026, around 250 consecrated persons from West Africa gathered in Kumasi, Ghana, for the Symposium dedicated to the theme “Consecrated Life for Transformation: Safe Spaces, Transformative Leadership, Witnesses of Hope”.

At the Symposium, organized by the Union of Conferences of Major Superiors of West Africa, the participation of the Secretary of the Dicastery, Sr. Tiziana Merletti S.F.P., together with an official, Fr. Clément Nandou, OSA, accompanied the discussions among consecrated persons from 16 member countries.

The meeting focused on some concrete aspects of consecrated life: the exercise of authority, the quality of fraternal life, and the responsibility to ensure safe environments. In an atmosphere of listening and sharing, experiences, operational criteria and common perspectives emerged, with particular attention to coordination between the various communities.

This was followed, from 16 to 20 March, by the Union’s General Assembly, attended by the Presidents of the National Conferences, together with their delegates. The meeting enabled the work already begun to continue and identified some avenues for reflection and commitment for the future.
