With grateful hearts for the many years dedicated to the service of consecrated life, we extend our greetings to Cardinal João Braz De Aviz, who concludes his term as Prefect of the Dicastery for Consecrated Life.

Appointed Prefect of the then Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life by Pope Benedict XVI on January 4, 2011, he worked for 13 years accompanying consecrated life in a time of change, helping to chart new paths with a renewed spirit, urging to put “new wine in new wineskins,” helping consecrated men and women to renew fraternal life, the service of authority, and the economic management of goods according to the evangelical logic of gift and communion.

Reappointed as Prefect on March 29, 2013 by Pope Francis, he has embraced the Magisterium with fidelity and love, urging consecrated men and women to live synodality according to the path traced by the Pontiff. “To patiently but decisively build this unity that is the harmony of differences asks us to be open to a conversion in our interpersonal relationships in all directions, beginning with our communities of fraternal life” (Card. De Aviz, Address to the USG Assembly, November 22, 2024).

To Cardinal De Aviz goes our sincere affection as we wish him every blessing from the Lord. May the Holy Trinity always continue to guide his steps and his life.
