To the national commissions for the Jubilee of Consecrated Life

Letter Jubilee of Consecrated Life

Vatican, September 12, 2024

To the national commissions for the Jubilee of Consecrated Life
through the Presidents of the Conferences of Major Superiors

After the rich experience of sharing and deepening that we had here in Rome with some of you last February, we joyfully take up again the course of the journey toward the Jubilee of Consecrated Life in 2025. Two phases await us:

  • The national Jubilee in individual countries, which we proposed would coincide with the day for consecrated life, 2 February 2025;
  • The worldwide Jubilee, which will be held in Rome from 8 to 12 October 2025.

We like to imagine that your working together in preparation for the National Jubilee, according to the mandate given in February (attached), is focused not so much on planning large gatherings as on initiating processes that promote a culture of peace, solidarity, mutual care. All this, starting from the concreteness of life around you, from the lights and wounds to unity that run through your society, the Church, the communities to which you belong, the people themselves. It would be nice if in the celebration of 2 February 2025 you would find a way to bring together the journey you have made, as thanksgiving, witness and commitment.

We find the perspective in the words of Pope Francis in the Bull of Indiction of the Jubilee: it will be a Holy Year characterized by the hope that does not fade, that of God. Indeed, this is the anchor that makes safe our pilgrimage on the paths of peace.

Pilgrimage and anchor, two terms that may appear to be in antithesis, with one expressing movement, the other stability, but which actually recall the source and strength of faith:

  • Pilgrimage refers to a movement that brings us back to our identity as creatures who receive everything, receiving all from God; a movement that, precisely because it is done together, brings us back to all of us being brothers and sisters, because we are all children of God;
  • The anchor represents the steadfast, deep, unbreakable, visceral connection with the womb of God, with the One who first loved us and gave himself for us.

Continuing the sharing that has characterized this journey since the beginning, we propose to meet through the Zoom platform on Thursday, 17 October 2024 at 9:30 a.m. or at 4 p.m. (Rome time). It will be an opportunity to learn about the steps taken so far and future steps regarding:

  • The Jubilee committees: their constitution and composition.
  • The areas to which you have focused your attention (commitment to the “least” - listening to the cry of the poor; care and custody of creation - environmental safeguarding; universal fraternity - solidarity; other...).
  • Potential programming: dates, projects, initiatives, target audience...

Each one can choose which time to attend (according to time zone), but it is necessary to register by filling out the form at the following address: Form closed

Putting your planning online will be a great asset; it can support those who are just beginning their programming, suggest ideas, or simply introduce different realities. Together we will also be able to glimpse how to let this mosaic of peace you are building shine through the path to the national jubilees on 2 February 2025, so that it will be a sign of hope not only for consecrated life, but for those around us.

A heartfelt greeting with a wish for peace and all good!
