On January 30, 2024, a group of students from the Faculty of Canon Law of the Pontifical University of Salamanca, accompanied by the Dean, visited the Dicastery to learn about its activities and to ask some questions about initiatives and practices in the field of Canon Law.
During their visit to the Apostolic See, the members of the new Presidency of CELAM (Latin American and Caribbean Episcopal Council), H.E. Msgr. Jaime Spengler, OFM, Archbishop of Porto Alegre (Brazil), President; H.E. Msgr. José Luis Azuaje Ayala, Archbishop of Maracaibo (Venezuela), First Vice-President; H.E. Msgr. José Domingo Ulloa Mendieta, OSA, Archbishop of Panamá, Second Vice President; H.E. Msgr. Santiago Rodríguez, Bishop of San Pedro de Macorís (Dominican Republic), President of the Council for Economic Affairs; H.E. Msgr. Lizardo Estrada Herrera, OSA, Auxiliary Bishop of Cuzco (Peru), General Secretary; Fr. Pedro Brassesco (Gualeguaychú, Argentina), Assistant Secretary General, were received in our Dicastery on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2023, by Prefect H.E.R. João Braz Card. de Aviz, and Undersecretaries Sr. Carmen Ros Nortes, N.S.C., and Fr. Pier luigi Nava, S.M.M.
On Tuesday, 5 September, some Superiors General of the Federation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul from Germany and France visited the Dicastery. They had the opportunity to reflect on the unification of the Vincentian Societies toward forming a new Society. After a welcome by Mons. José Rodríguez Carballo, Archbishop Secretary, they discussed with Fr. Leonello Leidi and Fr. Martin Wolf some concrete issues and a project to unite the communities. On Thursday, 7 September, they also met with Cardinal Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Christian Unity.
On 7 July 2023 a group of Canon Law students and professors from the Faculty of Canon Law of Saint Paul University, Ottowa Canada, visited the Dicastery. A warm greeting was offered by our Prefect, Card. João Braz de Aviz. Sr Carmen Ros NSC, undersecretary, offered a summary on the history and functioning of the Dicastery, while a response to questions concerning current initiatives and practices in the area of Canon Law was offered by our undersecretary, Fr. Pier Luigi Nava, SMM. The session closed with a brief discussion and a few related questions and answers.
On 6 June 2023 the Dicastery Prefect, H.E. Card. João Braz de Aviz received a delegation from CEAMA (Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon Region) and REPAM (Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network). The meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of communion and fraternity, was also an opportunity to speak about the Amazon, the potential of this land and the challenges that need to be addressed.
On 4 April 2023 a number of consecrated women, members of the Regnum Christi Society of Apostolic Life from Germany visited our Dicastery.
